Dr. JD Leclair
Dr. JD Leclair earned his veterinary degree from Colorado State University and is an equine practitioner in Northern Colorado. He and his wife Lori both moved to the Front Range for school and decided to make it home. JD grew up in Tanzania and Uganda, Africa where his family worked with dairy cows for Heifer Project International. His love of animals began there on the Serengeti Plains and continued when his family moved to Arizona. During high school JD worked both as a wrangler on a ranch near the Mogollon Rim and for a local veterinarian. He developed a passion for horses and chose CSU to study Equine Science and then Veterinary Medicine. While working on his degrees JD had the opportunity to gain experience working at the CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory and the Center for Disease Control Laboratory in Fort Collins. After graduation he began practicing with Dr. Dave Sievers, an experienced equine vet in Brighton, CO. JD and Lori are now excited to be serving their local community of Berthoud, Johnstown, Loveland, and surrounding areas.
Dr. Sarah Appleby
Dr. Sarah Appleby was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, where she worked as a large animal veterinary technician before deciding to attend the University of Wisconsin for veterinary school. During school, she spent many hours working with local equine veterinarians, and was introduced to the Equitarian Initiative, a group of equine veterinary volunteers. After 4 years of working with this organization, she was asked to lead a class on the Cheyenne River Reservation (South Dakota), and will continue organizing annual volunteer trips to this reservation. In addition to volunteer work, Sarah has a special passion for complementary therapies, spurred by her own horse’s severe head trauma and chronic back issues. She is certified in veterinary acupuncture and will complete her certification in veterinary spinal manipulation (chiropractic treatment) in December 2019. In her free time, Sarah enjoys hiking, skiing, riding her horse, and overall spending time outdoors in beautiful Colorado!
Dr. Lisa Jacobson
Dr. Lisa Jacobson has had a passion for horses that started before she could walk and has not diminished. After many years of great horse experiences including training ranch horses, training hunter/jumpers, teaching riding, grooming for a top Arab halter trainer and many more – she finally accomplished her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. Upon graduation from Veterinary school at CSU, Lisa did an internship at a 22 doctor, equine practice in Ocala, FL. Shortly after her internship she moved back to Montana where she had spent time during high school on her Dad’s ranch. She ran a mobile, equine practice near Livingston, MT for 10 years. Family circumstances have now brought her back to Colorado and Lisa joined Leclair Equine in September 2015 and specializes in emergency and chiropractic care.
